Top tips for landing your next interview

The job search and interview process can be daunting but rewarding. You will want to spend your time setting yourself apart from other applicants to progress further in the interview process and eventually landing that all important interview to explain and display your skills.

Apply for more than one job

It is important to keep your options open, you will not hear back from every job that you apply for. Some companies have policies where they will not contact unsuccessful applicants. Try to stand out from the other applicants through tailoring your application in order to be short listed and get that all important interview.

Consistent and clean social media image

Many employers look up candidates on social media prior to interview; it is therefore important to keep your online presence free from any photos and comments that could be seen as unprofessional.

On professional networks like LinkedIn you should try to stay engaged with your connections through liking, commenting, and sharing posts related to your profession or industry specialism. This can show potential employers that you are not only focused, but you have a good knowledge within your sector.

Keep you networks open

Although you may find it easier to interact with your connections through the means of social media, it is also highly important to maintain face-to-face interaction. You could meet up with old peers or connections to see if there are any job openings.

Keep yourself available

Throughout the application process, try to stay available as you will need to be ready to answer you phone or respond to emails regarding interviews. If you have applied for multiple jobs, make sure check your emails intermittently as new offers could be coming through. Try to respond to missed calls and emails at the earliest opportunity to ensure that you do not miss out on any opportunities.

Set aside time

Dedicate specific time periods to search through online job boards and social media to apply for roles of interest. This gives you time away to regain focus and recharge your motivation. It can be morale supressing when you are constantly searching for jobs with little success. Overall, this can make the job search process less daunting and stressful.
