What qualifications do I need to secure a job in engineering?

Depending on the industry and your area of specialty, you will need to have certain qualifications to be considered for the job. Many employers will require that you have a degree in engineering or technology. If you are considering an entry level position in engineering an employer will look for evidence of strong mathematical and analytical skills.

You can also gain qualifications via City & Guilds, work towards a diploma or enrol on an apprenticeship to qualify as an engineer.

Can I work on a permanent or contract basis?

Technical and engineering jobs are available on a temporary, permanent and contract basis. Contractors are usually paid a set day rate which is typically a higher rate that what is paid to workers on a permanent contract.
