The national minimum wage rate depends on your age and whether you are an apprentice.
To qualify for national minimum wage, you must be:
- School leaving age
- Aged 21 to get the National Living Wage – the minimum wage still applies for workers aged 20 and under.
Current Rates
From April 1st 2024, the rates are as follows:
- 21 and over: £11.44
- 18 – 20: £8.60
- Under 18: £6.40
- Apprentice: £6.40
Apprentices
Apprentices are entitled to the apprentice wage if they are:
- Aged under 19
- Aged 19 or over and in the first year of an apprenticeship.
Apprentices are entitled to the minimum wage for their age if they are both:
- Aged 19 or over.
- Have completed the first year of an apprenticeship.
