National Minimum Wage 2024

The national minimum wage rate depends on your age and whether you are an apprentice.

To qualify for national minimum wage, you must be:

  • School leaving age
  • Aged 21 to get the National Living Wage – the minimum wage still applies for workers aged 20 and under.

Current Rates

From April 1st 2024, the rates are as follows:

  • 21 and over: £11.44
  • 18 – 20: £8.60
  • Under 18: £6.40
  • Apprentice: £6.40

Apprentices

Apprentices are entitled to the apprentice wage if they are:

  • Aged under 19
  • Aged 19 or over and in the first year of an apprenticeship.

Apprentices are entitled to the minimum wage for their age if they are both:

  • Aged 19 or over.
  • Have completed the first year of an apprenticeship.
